Can anyone tell me the use to which these cast iron 'mushrooms' were put? I believe it has something to do with preventing rats getting to grain?

You are quite correct that they are part of equipment to stop rats eating grain - they are the supports for a metal rick staddle. A good reference is from Heather Holmes at

Do they have a manufacturer's name on them?
